Scratch is a free software "construction kit" that stems from decades of educational research at MIT and around the world. The software plays sounds and visual effects while displaying blocks of computer code that you assemble to control the actions. Young people experimenting with Scratch learn to become not just consumers, but active producers of animations, video games and interactive narratives. In doing so, they are combining artistic sensibilities and scientific thinking. This is good 21st-century learning! CDI offers occasional Scratch workshops and participates in the international Scratch Day. |
